African Radio Drama
Association (ARDA):
The African Radio Drama Association
(ARDA) is a non-profit and non-governmental, regional organization
started in 1994. The Nigeria chapter, which has been
operational since 1996, has become a leader in behaviour change
communication initiatives and a very active partner to various
development networks. ARDA, with support from Shell Nigeria,
produced “When Breeze Blow” - a
breezy radio magazine series packaged and presented by youth
for youth - in collaboration with Bayelsa State Radio Corporation,
state-based youth organizations, and Bayelsa State Action Committee
on AIDS (SACA).

Bayelsa State Action
Committee on AIDS (SACA Bayelsa):
The State Action
Committee on HIV & AIDS in Bayelsa State (SACA Bayelsa)
was inaugurated in 2006. Within the short period of its
existence so far, the committee has touched uncountable lives
and given hope to people living with HIV & AIDS across
the state through it numerous programmes. The “Three
Arm Road Walk,” which demonstrated the commitment of
three arms of government in Bayelsa State in the campaign against
HIV & AIDS in Bayelsa State, is now an international referral
point in the global battle against HIV & AIDS. SACA also
organized a special interactive session between former President
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Bayelsans living with HIV & AIDS
during the President’s visit to Bayelsa State in October
2006. Through its campaign agents, SACA ensures and supports
the establishment and operations of Anti-AIDS Clubs in all
higher institutions in Bayelsa and renders full support to
the operations of NYSC PETS corpers in all the secondary schools
in Bayelsa State to train the students to become peer educators
and trainers. For continuity and sustainability of the current
administration’s proactive policies on HIV & AIDS
the State Governor set up a Bill Drafting Committee to prepare
an enabling law to protect the rights of Bayelsans living with
HIV & AIDS and the laudable HIV & AIDS campaign policies.

Planned Parenthood Federation of
Nigeria (PPFN): The
Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) is part of the
International Planned Parenthood Federation and has its beginnings
in the early 1960’s. It is a nation-wide organization and
the largest sexual and reproductive health (SRH) NGO in Nigeria
that is present (through staff and/or volunteers) in all 36 states
of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Through partnerships
and capacity building, PPFN strives to increase access to quality
SRH services using gender-sensitive strategies that respond to
the diverse socio-cultural factors in the country. In addition
to men and women, PPFN’s efforts are directed to adolescents
and young people in recognition of the vulnerabilities of this
important sub-group. In tackling the HIV & AIDS scourge
in Bayelsa State and the Gbaran Community in particular, PPFN,
together with Shell Nigeria, held trainings in November 2007
for 68 young people from communities across Bayelsa and for teachers
in the Gbaran area in March 2008 to increase their knowledge
and improve the skills of the participants on educating others
on HIV & AIDS awareness and prevention.
